The Gao Ji Dian was founded by the Grandson of the Kublai Khan in the Year 1306 AD. The Imperial College was the only Institution of such a kind in the the Entire Empire. It was in effect the Highest School or University in China.
Most recently multi-milion dollar repairs on both the Confucius Temple and the Imperial College were carried out, restoring to them to their original glory.

A Good Option for refreshments and enjoyable stop-over is the Arts Coffee Haven at the Eastern end of the street and Yonghegong Street (Dajie'). Because of its colorful exteriors easily mistaken for another little shop selling Buddhist parafernelia, this Coffee Bar is the creation of a well-known local Artists and has been growing a small reputation for over 12 years already. The tastefully arranged artifacts, little statues and chinese historical objects represent the life and interest of Wang Hai Yan. Besides of all that, the Coffee Place is located exactly on the right spot, where -tired from exploring the area- one can deflate, enjoy a coffee and refind ones' energy. Other than coffee there are a variety of a sandwiches, and even mini pizza's to order and enjoy. The Coffee is Fair Trade (or Illy) and so are the clientele: local students, wandering tourists, and neighborhood friends.
