The Jiayuguan pass fortress is trapezoid-shaped with a perimeter of 733 meters and an area of more than 33,500 square meters. The total length of the city wall is 733 meters and the height is 11 meters. There are two gates: one on the east side of the pass, and another on the west side. The south and north sides of the pass are connected to the Great Wall. There is a turret on each corner of the pass. On the north side, inside the two gates, there are wide roads leading to the top of the pass. The Old City of Jiayuguan, mainly represented by today's Fortress has three defense lines: an inner city, an outer city, and a moat.

The Fortress of JiaYuGuan is located West of the City, where it stands at the inaccessible location of the JiaYu Shan, the Highest Hill on the Valley Floor of the Hexi Corridor at this point.
Originally the Fortress of JiaYu Pass was strategically located on a relatively inaccessible spot. The Bastion sits atop the highest Hill of the Valley Floor, the JiaYu Shan. For easy access to an ever necessary source of good water for Men and Horses, it is built next to a Lake that was at the Time of construction a desert Oasis.
Great Wall of China, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus stretching approximately 6,700 kilometers (4,163 miles ) from east to west of China. With a history of more than 2000 years, some of the section of the great wall are now in ruins or even entirely disappeared. However, it is still one of the most appealing attractions all around the world owing to its architectural grandeur and historical significance.
